Our Programs
We are committed to reducing drowning deaths by providing resources and training to kids in our communities. Check out our program offerings below.
Water Safety Field Trips
Hands-On Learning
Join us at a local pool to give your students the gift of lifesaving skills. Our water safety training curriculum meets Louisiana Believes Grade Level Standards for P.E. and Health. This 1 hour and 25 minute session is designed to teach everyone, from kids with no experience to competitive swimmers how to avoid drowning and how to rescue someone else.
Water Safety Presentations
On-site learning
If your school, church or camp can't make it to the pool we can come to you! Our Community Leader will meet you on site and lead an interactive, 30 minute water safety presentation designed to teach kids the fundamentals of safe swimming. Drowning is preventable and with our conversations and resources we can save lives.
Instructor Trainings
Certifications + Trainings
Safe Swim hosts trainings and certifications including American Red Cross CPR + First Aid, Lifeguard Training, Safety training for Swim Instructors as well as Swim Instructor Trainings ideal for lesson providers, new swim coaches, and water safety instructors.
What We Teach
Students who come to our water safety training engage in a 3 part program which consists of hands-on skills in the water, role play, and supervised free swim to practice what they have learned.
Rescue Role Play
In this portion of the training students will practice self-rescue skills and how to rescue a drowning person through the use songs, movement and role play. By practicing on dry land students have the opportunity to build confidence and competence without the fear of water. Students will also investigate safe practices around water that can prevent drowning deaths, becoming safe swim advocates in their communities.
In Water Training
During this in-water portion of training students will practice how to rescue themselves if they fall in the water. In addition, students will practice rescuing a drowning person without risking their own lives. With our small student-teacher ratio of 8:1 students will have the support they need to feel safe and comfortable in the water- even if they can´t swim.
Certification + Resources
During the third part of training students will explore personal flotation devices and how to use them. They will then practice putting them on and enjoy free play in the water. Upon completing steps 1-3, students will receive a certificate of Water Safety, a drowning prevention pamphlet and resource list for their family to continue their journey towards safe swimming.
